Fort Morgan, CO. 07/06/16. Do you own or are you looking to expand your business? Or, are you looking to start your own business? Morgan Community College is now accepting applications for its Small Business Entrepreneurs Program. MCC has partnered with both FMS Bank and the El Pomar Foundation to again provide access to quality business training in Northeastern Colorado, and will be selecting ten students based on applications and a letter of recommendation.
Students will enroll in two college level courses upon selection into the program. The course will meet on Thursdays beginning August 25 through December. During that time students will be provided course materials for use, however, participants must provide their own laptop for course work.
The software provided will enable participants to develop a business plan, project costs, and calculate their return on investment. These sections will be graded and are part of the student’s final presentation. Instruction also includes group meetings, field trips, seminars, technology usage, as well as one-on-one mentoring. Tuition and fees for both courses are grant funded thanks to FMS Bank and the El Pomar Foundation.
A non-college panel of judges will select the top three best business plans at the end of the semester according to defined criteria. Prizes will be awarded as follows:
First Prize $10,000.00
Second Prize $ 8,000.00
Third Prize $ 7,000.00
Fourth Prize Laptop Computer
All students will receive a Certificate of Merit for their work.
Applications are available online at www.MorganCC.edu/businessplan and must be submitted by August 1, 2016. Students will be notified by August 15 and classes will begin August 20. Along with the online application, a letter of recommendation from a business partner (non-family) must be sent to:

“This program helps to promote local businesses and increases the economic impact in the area,” shared John Sneed, FMS Bank president. FMS Bank’s sponsorship ensures future offerings of this curriculum.
An awards banquet will be held in December to announce the winners and award the top four students.
