DENVER-Stapleton (March 7-9, 2017) – Over 750 secondary and post-secondary students interested in health care careers attended the HOSA State Leadership Conference from March 7-9 at the Denver Renaissance-Stapleton. Students attended general sessions, educational symposiums and competed in over 50 different Competitive Events.
“We are very proud of each of our students who attended the HOSA State Leadership Conference this year. They all worked very hard in preparing for their individual competitive events, and it shows,” stated Jane Reyez, HOSA Advisor at Morgan Community College.
Reyez and Co-Advisor KC Sailsbery accompanied 18 students to the conference this year and seven of those students qualified to attend the International Leadership Conference, which will be held in Orlando, FL this June. To qualify for the International Conference, the student must earn a first, second or third place in their individual event.
Those placing are Juana Lopez, 2nd place in post-secondary Medical Math, 2nd place post-secondary Nursing Assisting, and 1st place post-secondary Extemporaneous Health Poster; Kortney Hale, 3rd place Medical Law and Ethics knowledge test and 3rd place Prepared Speaking; Dakota Kolman, 2nd place Nursing Assisting; Sadie Jones and Morgan Barfuss, 1st place CPR/First Aid; Mia Contreras and Lindsey Endsley, 1st place Community Awareness; Mia Contreras Top 10 Human Growth and Development knowledge test; and Cisco Estrada, Top 10 Pharmacology knowledge test. Cisco Estrada also earned 2nd place in Pharmacy Practice, which is a Colorado Only event.
“These students are truly the face of future health care professionals. They competed in activities that showcased not only their health care knowledge, but their leadership skills,” said Lauren Wojcik, Colorado HOSA State Advisor. “Congratulations to the students and their teachers for their hard work and preparation.”
