Nursing Admission Requirements
Associate Degree | Advanced Placement Option
The MCC Nursing Program follows the common admission criteria used by the Colorado Community College System Nursing Programs. Student must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in prerequisite courses to be eligible to apply to the MCC Nursing Program waitlist. All applications are done online through the Colorado Community College system website http:\\www.cccs.edu


Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
To get on waitlist. for the ADN program, student must have completed the following prerequisites with a grade of “C” or higher:

  • BIO 201 Anatomy & Physiology I , 4 cr, within the last 7 years
  • PSY 235 Human Growth & Development, 3 cr
  • ENG 121 English Composition, 3 cr
  • BIO 202 Anatomy & Physiology II, 4cr, within the last 7 years
  • BIO 204 Microbiology 4 cr, within the last 7 years
  • GPA of 2.5 for all of the above listed pre-requisites
  • MAT 090 or higher level MAT course or an Accuplacer score of 61 or higher, within the last 5 years
  • Students must also pass a FBI Fingerprinting background check. Link available at www.cccs.edu before applying to the waitlist.
In addition, the following requirements must be completed before being eligible for acceptance into the program:
  • Complete the Nursing Entrance Test (The NET). This can be scheduled through the Testing Center at MCC by calling 970-542-3188 or contact your local Community College. This test will be used for advising purposes only.
  • Valid American Heart Association CPR card, for the duration of the program (2 years)
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check and a drug screening, to be done within 90 days of the first day of starting the program-DO NOT COMPLETE ANY EARLIER!
  • Health Form and Immunization Record- you will receive information on this during your orientation to the program.
In addition to all of the above, the following general education courses are required with a grade of “C” or higher:
  • BIO 216 Pathophysiology 4 cr, within the last 7 years
  • Humanities/Social Science Elective from the GT pathway 3 cr
  • HPR 108 Nutrition 1 cr
  • Due to scheduling and the high intensity of the nursing program, it is highly recommended that you complete these courses prior to starting the nursing program.
Advanced Placement (LPN to ADN)
To get on waitlist. for the LPN to RN program, student must have completed the following prerequisites with a grade of “C” or higher:
  • BIO 201 Anatomy & Physiology I , 4 cr, within the last 7 years
  • PSY 235 Human Growth & Development, 3 cr
  • ENG 121 English Composition, 3 cr
  • BIO 202 Anatomy & Physiology II, 4 cr, within the last 7 years
  • BIO 204 Microbiology 4 cr, within the last 7 years
  • GPA of 2.5 for all above listed pre-requisites, including LPN courses
  • MAT 103 Math for Clinical Calculations or a higher level math course, within the last 5 years.
  • BIO 216 Pathophysiology 4 cr, within the last 7 years
  • HPR 108 Dietary Nutrition
  • Complete the Nursing Entrance Test (The NET). This can be scheduled through the Testing Center at MCC by calling 970-542-3188 or contact your local Community College. This test will be used for advising purposes only. If you have already taken the NET, it is valid for a period of 2 years.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited PN program within the USA, and hold a valid Colorado LPN License.
  • Must meet experience and testing requirement as identified in the Colorado Articulation Model 2005-2010
