The following procedures have been developed in order to assist
instructors and employees with many of the emergency problems that may
arise in the classroom or College building.
Instructors and employees are encouraged to use their better judgment when confronted with minor accidents or illnesses. However, in situations deemed more serious, they are advised to follow these procedures and to notify anyone in Administration. In order to activate the emergency response system, anyone calling within the MCC phone system must dial 9 to obtain an outside line, and then 911. In general, any person acting in good faith to care for someone in an emergency situation is covered under the Good Samaritan laws. As the immediate emergency care provider, you should perform emergency care that you feel comfortable providing to the person injured or needing care. Assess your own abilities in each individual situation. The most important factor is safety for all persons in the area. Your first responsibility should be to activate the emergency response system and then assist the patient as best you are able. Some persons may refuse to accept first aid because of certain beliefs that they or their parents hold. Constitutionally, this is within their rights. In such instances, the College should promptly inform the responsible party when an emergency occurs so that the responsibility is placed upon them. The Vice President of Administration should keep careful records of the case, attested by witnesses. Location of First Aid Kits and Blood/Body Fluid Clean-up Kits
