| Kyle Meyer started taking Morgan Community College classes through the MCC Bennett Center when he was a high school junior. It was an opportunity that allowed him to finish thirty credit hours of higher education while he was still in the comfort of his parents' home, and it was completely paid for by his school district except for books and fees.
As a result, Kyle finished two associate degrees as a Sophomore Scholar at MCC. He described his experience as a glimpse of college expectations in a controlled environment. Kyle commented, "The instructors were friendly, but still treated us like college students. Later, when I went to Southwestern Oklahoma State to finish my prerequisites for pharmacy school, it was not a huge shock because I had already experienced success as a college student." Another important detail is that all of his MCC credits transferred to SW Oklahoma State and later to CU School of Pharmacy.
Kyle's goal to pursue a degree in pharmacy was formulated when he was in high school. "I was always very good at science," said Meyer, "and the career opportunity was a good fit for me because I knew that I was not a big fan of manual labor having spent time on my grandparents' ranch and being around the construction business." Kyle acknowledges his good fortune of having parents, teachers, and good friends to support his educational decisions. At age 25, Kyle graduated from the University of Colorado Health Science Center School of Pharmacy and is now a pharmacy manager with King Soopers.
