| MCC made a difference in my life because I learned to believe in myself. I was involved with MCC Student Government Association which led to my election to the State Student Advisory Council (SSAC). When I received the Jean Danford Outstanding Student Leadership award, I realized the potential within me to become a great student.
Thanks to Ms. Kellum, my MCC English instructor, I was inspired to major in English at UNC. I presented a research project in Seattle on second language acquisition among Somali refugees. I enjoy working with immigrants and refugees. Since my parents were immigrants, I have been around this population my entire life.
I received a scholarship to study linguistics and literature at Harvard. I am excited to enter their one-year master's program.
