Meredith Cox

Meredith Cox (Brush High School 2000) discovered she could take college classes at MCC while she was still in high school. In fact, she chose what was called the 5th year program that allowed her to extend her high school enrollment for an extra year while earning an associate degree.  She said she enjoyed being with more mature students, “I thought it was really cool to be taking college course whilst still in high school-- just a different atmosphere from the typical high school classroom.”

Saving both time and money, she afforded a travel opportunity before transferring to DU to finish her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. Meredith says, “Going to MCC was a huge benefit for me.  It helped me financially, for sure, as I actually only ended up paying for one semester at MCC, since my tuition was covered when I was in high school.”

Upon graduation, she was offered a full-time position at DU in the Office of the Registrar where she stayed for the next four years.  During that time, she earned a Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing (June 2005), as well as a Master of Arts degree in Mass Communications (August 2007), both from DU.  The next stop was London to become certified as an ESL teacher. That certification opened doors for her in Thailand and now China. Meredith says, “Now I'm living in Shanghai, teaching ESL; something I really enjoy.  I've lived here since June 2009, and living abroad has been a fantastic experience!”
