Terrie L. Serrano

Over the years Terrie L. Serrano had considered obtaining her GED, however outside influences had kept her from finishing. At age 42, Terrie decided it was time, and through a referral from the Colorado Workforce Center, entered Morgan Community College’s Adult Basic Education program at Cedar Hall—affectionately called by Terrie, “a little slice of heaven.”

In the spring of 2010, Terrie completed her GED certificate and enrolled in college courses. “The staff at MCC made the transition into community college so much easier,” said Terrie.

“While working with Terrie, it was very clear she was capable in completing her goal,” noted MCC Transition Coordinator Kathi Bell. “She would not only meet the course requirements, but exceed them. She is a great role model and has mentored other students, being able to relate to their circumstances and setting a positive example” added Kathi.

“What I remember most is someone asking, ‘Why not you?’ This was so profound, I never considered myself as the type to go to college. And now, I’ll soon be graduating from MCC with an Associate of Science degree and will be transferring to Regis University to study computer science,” said Terrie.
