Quote of the Month - “Data is of no value unless it is presented to the right people,
in a readable format and a timely manner.”

This issue of the AQIP Newsletter will begin a series of Team Profiles to help you understand the AQIP process and get to know each team a little better.  We begin our series with the Data Collection Team.

WOW!  This team got off to a great start and has definitely kept up the good work.  As stated in their AQIP Annual Review last November:  “The Team is to be commended…” and “The Data Collection Team seems to be on track”.  So far, so good, wouldn’t you say?

Let’s take a closer look at the Data Collection Team.

Team Members Left to right; Suzanna Dobbins, Kim Ewertz, April Amack (co-chair), Kellie Overturf, JoAnn Kennedy, Jan Garcia, Carol Kuper (co-chair) Standing: Dan Hartless, Don Estes, Randy Watson

We posed several questions to Data Team members, including “What have you discovered about MCC while working on this project?” and “What would you like people to know about AQIP and/or the Data Team?”
Their answers might surprise you!

“Most MCC employees love their e-mail, but if you need vital information, a personal visit with an individual will often yield faster and greater results.”

“Hidden treasures:  Many people are surprised to learn that MCC has an Institutional Research Department and accompanying website that is overseen by Janie Hubbell.  Facts and figures about the college, MCC demographics, and an online course evaluation form can be found at this site.  To access the information, go to www.morgancc.edu; select the link “For Faculty/Staff” and click “Institutional Research” from the left-side menu.”

“The name ‘Data Collection Team’ can often sound intimidating, as it conjures up images of statistical calculators and running tape a mile long, but the truth is being a member of the Data Team does not require that you be a ‘numbers’ person.  Everyone brings skills to a team to infuse a diversity of talent, opinions and abilities, and I think our team has been successful because of our collective differences and shared belief in the importance of AQIP for the college’s accreditation.”

Data Collection Team Project Goals:
The goals of this Action Project are to improve data collection and dissemination to better utilize data in (1) the strategic and annual planning processes, (2) decision making, (3) reporting results of college programs and objectives to the college and community, (4) to develop and routinely review processes and timelines to support ongoing data collection initiatives, and (5) to provide a feedback loop for appropriate dissemination of data both college-wide and to specific groups that will utilize the information for decision making in the areas of developing newly identified programs, resource management, and budgetary processes.

Coming Next Month:

Enrollment Management Team Profile

“I have discovered that there are many different people at MCC who use or need similar information or reports that are intended for each individual’s purpose.”

“… (we) have been able to help connect data to the people who need it.”

“As co-chair, I have discovered that the Data Collection Team is hardworking and dedicated.  We have worked diligently all this year to allow us adequate time for an upcoming project later, so we’re not finished yet!  In short, I appreciate all the members of the Data Team.”

“…we gather lots of data, but it is underutilized because people don’t know it’s there, who to ask for it, or what to ask for.”

The forum "What the Heck is AQIP?" was a huge success!
