Quote of the Month - “GO MCC ROADRUNNERS!

Our second edition of the AQIP Newsletter profiles the Writing Team.  Okay, okay, you might be thinking—“a bunch of English majors who love to diagram  grammar”, right?  Well, as they say, you are SO not right!  The Writing Team is as diverse as our faculty, staff, and student body are!  Yes, it does include some English majors, but the Team is much more than that.  Let’s take a look…

Note the Writing Team mission in the box to the right.

So, what exactly has the Writing Team accomplished so far?

  • Completed the first and second Annual Reports (2004 and 2005)

  • Assumed management of the MCC AQIP webpage

  • Created an ongoing newsletter to update the college on AQIP progress—which is what you are now reading!

What do we hope to accomplish this year?

  • Prepare the next Annual Report

  • Anticipate future challenges we will encounter in preparing the System Portfolio (a long document of up to 100 pages due in 2007)

Writing Team Mission:

Primary:  Our primary mission is to prepare the AQIP Annual Reports, System Portfolio, and other major documents related to the AQIP process.  Unlike an Action Team that will disband after three years, we will function as an ongoing entity similar to the Steering Team.

Secondary:  A secondary element of our job is to keep AQIP in everyone’s mind.  Our web newsletter should keep everyone inspired and thinking of ways to incorporate AQIP into their daily, weekly, and monthly goals and actions.

What would you like people to know about AQIP or about the Portfolio Writing Team?

I am discovering throughout this process that it is hard to call anything fully implemented, because it’s always changing. As the saying goes, ‘The only constant is change’.       - Loretta Crone

Going from the old accreditation process to AQIP is kind of like being dropped in the water and told to swim to the far end. We’re learning as we go...but it’s an ongoing effort that is becoming absorbed into our normal operating procedure, rather than a once every seven-to-ten-year monster that we heroically slay and forget about until it hatches again.

All the teams are to be commended for the work they’ve done so far and for the challenges they’ve identified, attacked, and overcome.

I’ve discovered how flexible we are. The people in this institution are not locked into set ways of doing things.                            - Greg Thomas

Each AQIP team has its own unique personality, reflective of its members.     - Jo Ann Kruglet
