Reality of the Month - Only 3 weeks of classes left!

WOW! November is here, so that means we are definitely on the down slope of the semester, right? What else does November bring to mind—falling leaves, crisp mornings, football games, turkey and all the trimmings? Yes, but it also means a new AQIP Team profile. Let’s hear it for the Enrollment Management Team! Hooray!! Who exactly is the Enrollment Management Team and what’s special about them? Read on…

Note the Enrollment Management Team mission in the box to the right.

So, what exactly has the Writing Team accomplished so far?

Developed a new Enrollment management Plan (EMP)

What’s new and different about the plan?

It’s not a top-down plan. It’s a bottom-up plan. The Enrollment Management Team has brought in content experts from all the different departments that the plan is going to affect, and they’ve worked together to formulate a plan that fits our college.

It also has an evaluation portion; at the end of each year, enrollment management will be evaluated for effectiveness. This will create ongoing improvement, helping us to accentuate the positives and eliminate the negatives. The previous plan was five years old and did not include self-evaluation measures.

How is it going to make things better?

It should help us to increase enrollment, retention and graduation rates among all student groups. We also plan to make Enrollment Management a standing team at the college once the project is retired. This is one AQIP project that will become fully incorporated into our system.

What do we hope to accomplish this year?

Finalize the Enrollment Management Plan and develop the protocols and baselines for the evaluation of the plan.

Enrollment Management Team Mission:

The goal of this action project is to create an enrollment management process to increase student recruitment and retention with an emphasis on minority students.

What have you discovered about MCC while working on this team?

There is a lot of good emphasis at MCC and the Enrollment Management Team on student success and evaluation.

…MCC works very hard on continually trying to improve our institution for both the students and its employees. MCC gives employees an opportunity to voice their opinion.

What I have discovered about MCC while working on Enrollment Management is that the faculty and staff have a wealth of knowledge about students and what it takes for students to succeed; that the faculty and staff that have worked on this team are some of the most dedicated people I have been around.

What would you like people to know about AQIP or about the Enrollment Management Team?

Increasing enrollment is a long and arduous passage always exacerbated by the quagmire of budget and money issues. There are many things we can do and are planning to do, but the long and short of it is that we have a hard road ahead of us reaching those who need MCC most.

I would like the rest of MCC to know that the members of this team have been working very hard to create an enrollment management plan that meets the needs of the students but also the college. …the plan will have specific goals that will be modified as it is determined what works and what does not.

…AQIP is working hard on bettering the enrollment process at MCC to make it a smoother transition for all students, both traditional and non-traditional.

REMINDER: ALL AQIP TEAMS NEED TO HAVE THEIR TEAM REPORTS IN TO THE WRITING TEAM APRIL, 2006.
Please keep that in mind as you continue working on your projects. Thanks!
