Just in case you missed the inference:
Your involvement makes a difference.
(Taken from "AQIP there, Ma'am?")

So, here it is, hot off the press, or in this case, burning through the computers―the April issue of the AQIP Newsletter! We know that everyone who saw the AQIP skit, “AQIP there, ma’am?” performed by Greg Thomas and Cheryl Page at Professional Development Day is now up-to-date, right? Well, read on…

Action Project Update

The Action Project CREATIVE SOLUTIONS TO RURAL NEEDS met several times last year and early this spring to discuss processes that are presently used to gather information on the educational needs of MCC’s rural service areas.  So, what specific items did this team complete?

þ Created questions for the college-related survey conducted in January and February of 2008

þ Gathered information from Center Directors on the processes used to generate needs and interests assessments of their community residents

þ Reviewed the informal processes currently used for collecting rural needs

The long-term goal of this action project is twofold:  1.) to develop an ongoing process for continual assessment of the needs of the rural areas; and 2.) to put a formal structure in place for responding to those needs within a timely manner.  To that end, more work is needed, and this action project will continue next year.

What’s next for the Rural Needs project?

  1. Determine the best way to formalize outreach and data collection processes regarding this area.

  2. Review and refine the processes

  3. Begin to gather data in this area.

CHALLENGES/OPPORTUNITIES
When asked about the challenges facing this team, co-chair Ruth Tryon indicated several areas that may provide opportunities for growth and change.  They are:

  • New direction following administrative changes late last year
  • Narrowing the focus to manageable units
  • Establishing consensus
In addition, identifying these elements helped team members better understand that although we are all carrying through MCC's mission, more formalized documentation is required, along with clear communication.
