Rachel Kellum teaches writing, literature, humanities and art at Morgan Community College where she works as full-time faculty, vice president of faculty senate, and an advisor for Phi Theta Kappa.

In 1993, Rachel graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, with a focus on painting and drawing, and a minor in English.  A year of her course of study occurred in London , England, where she studied literature at the Institute of European Studies, art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art, and oil painting at the Slade School of Fine Art.

She took a few years off from her pursuit of formal education to hike the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains, become a mother, and learn to hand drum.

By 1999, Rachel completed her Master’s coursework in English Education and taught composition for two years at Colorado State University.  During and after this time she hand-built a cabin in the mountains and spent several years homeschooling her three children and writing. She completed her Master’s thesis in 2004 which passed with distinction at Colorado State University.

Rachel's creative non-fiction can be found in the book, Journey into Motherhood, and her poetry in The Nieve Roja Review.

In her spare time, Rachel loves to spend time with and read to her children, garden, travel, create music with her guitarist husband who is also an English teacher, practice Tai Chi and Tae Kwon Do, volunteer for our local hospice, and write poetry.
