Rachel Kellum
teaches writing, literature, humanities and art at Morgan Community
College where she works as full-time faculty, vice president of faculty
senate, and an advisor for Phi Theta Kappa.
In 1993, Rachel graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, with a focus on
painting and drawing, and a minor in English. A year of her course
of study occurred in London , England, where she studied literature at
the Institute of European Studies, art history at the Courtauld Institute
of Art, and oil painting at the Slade School of Fine Art.
She took a few
years off from her pursuit of formal education to hike the Appalachian
and Rocky Mountains, become a mother, and learn to hand drum.
By 1999, Rachel
completed her Master’s coursework in English Education and taught
composition for two years at Colorado State University. During and
after this time she hand-built a cabin in the mountains and spent several
years homeschooling her three children and writing. She completed her
Master’s thesis in 2004 which passed with distinction at Colorado State
University.
Rachel's
creative non-fiction can be found in the book, Journey into
Motherhood, and her poetry in Barnwood Magazine, The Nieve Roja Review
and others.
In her spare
time, Rachel loves to spend time with and read to her children, garden,
travel, practice Tai Chi and Tae Kwon Do, volunteer for hospice, and write poetry.
