Carol was born "Carol Stevens" in Schenectady NY but grew up in Baltimore MD, often thinking about becoming a math teacher. She graduated from Towson High School, then from the University of Maryland as a physical therapist and worked for many years in New Jersey, Colorado, New Mexico and most recently California. While working at the Veterans Health Administration medical center in New Mexico, Carol developed an interest in the benefits of exercise for veterans with diabetes and in preventing amputations. During her career with the VA, she obtained a federal research grant to conduct a clinical exercise trial. Her interest in research led to completion of a masters’ degree from Chapman University and a doctoral degree from the University of New Mexico. But while teaching research to rehab medicine residents at the Los Angeles VA, she decided she liked teaching a lot.

Dr. Leach comes to Morgan Community College as Director of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program. She believes Physical Therapy was a lucky choice that has served her well over a lifetime and has offered many opportunities to change locations and directions without moving out of the profession. She says she has never had a patient she did not enjoy the challenge of treating and that the time spent helping her patients has been the cornerstone of her personal self-fulfillment. Dr. Leach looks forward to sharing that kind of opportunity with as many students as possible at MCC.
