I believe that each of you has the
potential to earn an “A” in my course provided you are willing to get on
with the tasks at hand, complete assignments on time and in an appropriate
form, and be systematic and thoughtful about the subject matter.
I believe that it is my responsibility to know the subject matter, be available and prepared to answer your questions, and challenge you to ask questions that increase your understanding.
Your responsibility is to take your work seriously. A Guided Study course requires dedication in spite of all of the other activities in your lives. You must complete your work in a timely manner. You must ask for explanations when the material seems confusing. You must participate in the online class discussions using WebCT. There is important information in this course packet explaining how to logon to WebCT using an Internet browser and how to participate in the online class discussions. It is important that you read and understand this material. You can use the email address above to correspond with me individually if you have any problems.
Course Information
Courses taken as part of a Guided
Study program require you to participate. While you have an instructor who
is your resource for understanding, the instructor is not charged with
reminding you to meet deadlines or to participate in class discussions.
This is a GUIDED STUDY course. We will discuss topics covered in the readings and outlined in the timeline. This is your opportunity to ask questions and my opportunity to provide guidance and assistance during your studies by encouraging the kind of dialogue that students in a classroom setting would have. You may call me in the evenings or tell me when it is a good time to call you if necessary. I will try to make contact with you during the first week of class to make sure you understand the expectations of this course.
Tests will be taken online in the WebCT course shell. In an absolute emergency, copies of the tests will be available at the testing centers and with permission, you may take the test at your nearest testing center. Testing centers are not open at all hours on all days so make sure you plan to take the test by the deadline at a time the Center is open. The preference is to take your exams online.
You can be successful in this course as part of your college career! Having made the decision to participate you have made a commitment to learning. I am happy to help you reach your goals.
