WELCOME! Welcome to the Astronomy I – Guided Study Course I’ve been asked to write a short paragraph introducing myself to you. I am a graduate of Fort Morgan High School and Colorado State University with a Bachelors degree in Physics, a minor in Math, and a Masters degree in Education and a cognate in science and math. In between high school and college I spent six years in the United States Marine Corp. I have been teaching for Morgan Community College for 15 years, nine years as a part-time instructor and six as a full-time instructor. When I agreed to teach this course, my goal was to insure that the students in the course received the best educational experience possible. To accomplish this goal a variety of delivery methods will be used. A large portion of the course will be done independently or in small groups, a web-based portion (WebCT and the MCC web page), and instructor-student interaction. I will be setting up a webpage and holding office hours just for this class. There will also be online threaded discussions using WebCT. During the semester we will also try some of the other features of WebCT like online testing and the chat room. This will not solve all of the problems that will come up during the semester but it should help. I will post office hours on the MCC web page as soon as I can. I will also be using email to communicate with you, but my preference is WebCT. Here are some things you must do to start the course:
I am looking forward to working with you this semester. If you have any concerns or questions please call. And don't forget to login to WebCT as it will be the primary method of communication for this course. Sincerely, Todd Schneider
