Systems Porfolio Revision Complete!
by Greg Thomas
It’s done. The yearlong project to revise our Systems Portfolio has been completed and the portfolio has been submitted!
As you know, AQIP asks its member institutions to submit a complete description of its operations, known as a “Systems Portfolio” once every four years as a required part of the reaccreditation process. Thanks to the persistent efforts of the Strategic Planning team, who performed the content review of the previous portfolio, the AQIP Writing Team, who formatted and inputted it, it is finished.
In a few months we will receive a Systems Appraisal Feedback Report. This is a review of our portfolio by a team of peers from other institutions, who point out both strengths and opportunities for improvement. This report can be extensive (the 2007 one was 47 pages!).
What’s remarkable about this year’s submission is that we have moved our portfolio to an online format. Of course the portfolio has been viewable on the MCC Website since 2007 - but only as a .pdf file. Now it has been posted in a true online format, which not only makes it easier to view, it will make it easier to revise in the future. It is a much more interactive document now, with hyperlinks to external documents and cross links to other sections of the document, as well as being fully searchable.

Our intention is that the Systems Portfolio becomes an active, living document. Not only will it provide up-to-date descriptions of the college’s operations, it will become a central reference point for us, something we use in our day-to-day operations, regardless of what area we work in.
To that end, we ask that you keep us advised of any notable changes in the college’s operations, so that we can update the portfolio accordingly. (We do not have to wait another four years to make portfolio changes!) We also ask that any errors, discrepancies, bad links, or outdated material in the portfolio be reported to the AQIP Writing Team, c/o Greg Thomas or to the MCC Webmaster, Terri Eades as soon as detected. Thank you!
Annual Action Project Update
Each year in September MCC submits to AQIP updates on its current action projects. These updates, and the feedback they received from AQIP reviewers, can be viewed here:
AP-16 Implementation of D2L
AP-19 Development of a new Five-Year Strategic Plan
The first two of the above projects have now been completed. The Strategic Planning Team (SPT) is in the process of determining what new action projects will take their place and these new projects will be reported in a future newsletter.

"The time to begin writing an article is when you have finished it to your satisfaction. By that time you begin to clearly and logically perceive what it is you really want to say."
