Fort Morgan, CO. 01/02/13.  The tale of Cinderella isn’t new, but few have seen it in ballet form. TheImage: Ballerina Center for Arts and Community Enrichment (CACE) at Morgan Community College (MCC) announces the performance of “From the Ashes: A Cinderella Ballet,” on Sunday, January 20 at 7 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Auditorium at Fort Morgan High School.

This performance promises to bring its audience a new spun tale on the classic story. “This Cinderella is defiant and independent,” says choreographer and director Jennifer Deckert. “I wanted to redefine what a confident young woman is—she does not need to be demure or restricted to a certain mode of being.”

The ballet follows a young woman who is discerning her true desires in life against a backdrop of societal expectations. Cinderella struggles against her jealous stepmother, spiteful stepsisters and idealized notions of love. “Cinderella must stand on her own convictions as she strives to find a love deeper than fairy tales,” added Deckert.

CACE has partnered with The University of Wyoming Fine Arts Outreach Office to bring classical ballet to Fort Morgan as part of their three-state tour. The production will visit the communities of Gillette, Wyoming; Rapid City, South Dakota; Scottsbluff, Nebraska; and Torrington, Wyoming before the final show in Fort Morgan. The full-scale ballet production will feature University of Wyoming students under the direction of Deckert, an assistant professor in the theatre and dance department.
