Fort Morgan, CO 04/16/18. Morgan Community College (MCC) Center of Arts and Community Enrichment (CACE) welcomes guest speaker and visual effects artist Ed Kramer to the Fort Morgan campus on Thursday, April 19 for a special “behind the scenes” look at how visual effects are created. This free presentation, “The Wizards of Hollywood,” will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Bloedorn Hall at MCC (920 Barlow Road, Fort Morgan).
During his presentation, Kramer will touch on the hidden history of movie special visual effects created using computer software, more commonly known as computer-generated imagery (CGI). His name might not be recognizable, but his CGI works appear in many well-known films, including STAR WARS Episodes I, II, III, and Pirates of the Caribbean II: Dead Man’s Chest. He has contributed to such classics as Jumanji, Twister, The Perfect Storm, Harry Potter 2, Jurassic Park: The Lost World, Stargate, Deep Impact, Herbie Fully Loaded, Planet of the Apes, 101 Dalmatians and Van Helsing.
Kramer spent twelve years as a CGI Artist and Supervisor for George Lucas’ famed company Industrial Light + Magic. He is a Professor of Computer Graphics at the Art Institute of Colorado, and is a professional keynote speaker on the evolution of CGI. Kramer is also writing a book and producing a documentary about the artists behind some of the most famous computer-generated moments in movie history, also titled “The Wizards of Hollywood.”
