award provides a guaranteed financial aid package of up to $4000 over two years to recent high school graduates within the College’s 11,500 square-mile service area across Eastern Colorado. There is no minimum GPA requirement.

“The Promise Award is one of the ways MCC demonstrates its commitment to removing financial barriers for those who desire to attend college,” according to MCC President, Dr. Curt Freed. “This year, the College increased the amount of the Promise Award for full-time students, as well as added eligibility for part-time students.”

Mia Contreras, a Brush High School graduate, knows the value of the Promise Award first-hand. “Receiving the Promise Award at MCC is helping me achieve my goal of becoming a neonatal nurse. It’s really easy to receive—all you have to do is take a certain number of classes,” she said.

“Students who take full advantage of The Promise Award have the potential to reduce their tuition costs significantly – some as much as 50% or more,” commented Sally Shawcroft, Director of Financial Aid.  In addition, recipients are still eligible to apply for private scholarships.

To qualify for the Promise Award, students must enroll full-time with a minimum of 12 or more credits/term to receive $1000 per semester, or half time with 6-11 credits/term to receive $500 per semester.  Individuals who have graduated from a service area high school within the last three years are eligible to apply.

MCC offers over fifty programs, including guaranteed transfer courses to four-year institutions in Colorado and career-technical training in fields such as health occupations, welding, industrial electrical/mechanical maintenance, media design, and automotive technologies.
