Fort Morgan, CO 09/04/18. The CACE Gallery of Fine Art announces its upcoming exhibit: “Years Past: Millennia, Centuries, Decades.” The exhibit is a 3-D exploration of fabric and stone by artist Juli-Ann Gasper, Ph.D. The show will open Monday, September 17 in the lower level of 300 Main Street, Fort Morgan.
The pieces in the “Millennia” section of the exhibit demonstrate how the beauty of stones can be enhanced with fabric. Gasper reinterpreted designs from ancient Native American artists for the “Centuries” segment of the show. Her “Decades” creations evoke nostalgia about small town life in the Great Plains.
“When I work with fabric, I lose myself in the textures and colors,” states Gasper. “I want the art to evolve through the touch, sight, sound, and even smell of the fabrics. The weave, the thickness, the translucency, and the open spaces between threads all affect my design process.”
Juli-Ann Gasper, the daughter of Dr. Ham and Avis Jackson, grew up in Fort Morgan but has resided in Omaha, Nebraska for over four decades. After a 33-year career teaching corporate finance, Gasper retired in 2012 to pursue her passion for art. Her work has been exhibited at the Jewish Community Center Art Gallery and the Caesium Gallery in Omaha. She also has a private gallery in her home, teaches art classes, and hosts “Expressive Kids” neighborhood art shows.
Gasper’s exhibit at the CACE Gallery of Fine Art can be viewed Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until October 18. Admission is free. The public is invited to a reception and artist presentation on Friday, October 5, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In addition, Gasper will present a free fabric workshop on October 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Inspirations Quilt Shop at 423 Main St., Fort Morgan. Participants must bring their own sewing machines. Space is limited to 14, with registration available at https://years-past.eventbrite.com.
