A Message from MCC President Dr. Curt Freed
Chase Bennett will graduate from MCC in the Spring of 2021 with an Associate of Applied Science in Electromechanical Technology (ELMT). Chase has been very involved in promoting the program, including participating in a marketing video, helping with a virtual tour for middle schoolers, and engaging with prospective students. He also helps tutor newer program participants and mentors high school shop students. After graduation, Chase plans to continue his education at Colorado Mesa University (CMU) and obtain a Bachelor of Science in Business. He credits the MCC faculty and the hands-on work experience he gained, including assisting with a renovation of the local high school, with preparing him to transfer to CMU. His goal is to work as an electrical apprentice, obtain his journeyman’s license, and eventually own his own business. His personal interests include archery, hunting, lifting weights, riding horses, and hiking.
Yadira Garcilazo is a first-generation student and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2020 from MCC with an Associate of Applied Science in Media Design, Marketing and Advertising. She decided to continue her education at MCC and plans to graduate Spring 2022 with an Associate of Arts in Business with an emphasis in Real Estate. Yadira is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the MCC Multicultural Club. She also served as the 2019-20 Student Government Association President. Yadira is a Work Study student for the MCC Marketing Department, where she has contributed her skills in photography, videography, and graphic design. One of her projects was to create an awareness campaign about MCC’s African students, creating visuals illustrating the cultural diversity on campus. She has also volunteered at OneMorganCounty, an organization that advocates for inclusivity in the community. Yadira recently redesigned the monthly MCC student newsletter and serves as a contributing writer. Her nominator describes her as always being positive and excited to learn.
Inclusive Excellence Champion
Anna Ruiz will graduate with her ADN in spring 2021 and plans to continue her nursing education at MCC through the college’s RN-BSN program. Anna is a member of the Student Nurse Association and serves as a certified nursing assistant at a local hospital. She was instrumental in organizing the MCC Pride Club, and represented the college at an Inclusive, Diversity, & Equity conference in San Francisco. Her nominator describes Anna as a “quiet, compassionate leader. She is accepting of everyone and willing to support all.”
PTK All-Colorado Academic Team
Reine Dayouh is pursuing an Associate of Arts Degree with a concentration in Accounting at MCC. An immigrant from Cotonou, Benin, Reine moved to Colorado in 2017 with her husband and three children. She holds an accounting degree from the Technical High School Mamadou Coulibaly in Benin. While living in West Africa, she worked as an accountant for a trading company specializing in importing food products from France. After moving to Fort Morgan, Reine began working for Cargill as a general laborer. She decided to return to school to open the door for more employment opportunities. After completing her degree at MCC, Reine plans to transfer to the University of Northern Colorado to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Her goal is to become an accountant in the United States, preferably in the food industry.
Bruce Dietz will graduate from MCC in the spring of 2022 with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Radiologic Technology. He is active in MCC’s PTK chapter, where he serves as Vice-president. After graduation, Bruce plans to find employment in northeast Colorado as a Radiologic Technologist and pursue a certification in computed tomography. Bruce has enjoyed an adventurous life in multiple careers. His first career as a commercial diver with Oceaneering International resulted in a serious injury in a diving accident that required several surgeries. During his rehabilitation, Bruce took note of the dedication and pride the health professionals displayed and was inspired to seek a career in the health industry. Bruce also enjoyed a career as an entrepreneur and business owner in the auto retail industry. He has five stepchildren and is a grandfather to three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Bronwyn Kalcevic will graduate from MCC in the spring of 2021 with an Associate of Arts degree. She is proud to be a first-generation college student, and has worked on her family’s farm in Bennett, Colorado since she was thirteen. After high school, Bronwyn began serving as a substitute teacher in the K-8 school she attended and now works there full time as a Kindergarten Aide. She furthered her love for working with children by completing the Early Childhood Education program at MCC. Bronwyn’s long-term goal is to become a teacher or start a preschool or daycare program. She credits her college experience with helping give her skills and confidence to pursue her dreams.
Ashley Wilkins will graduate from MCC in the spring of 2021 with an Associate of Arts degree with a concentration in Criminal Justice. Ashley plans to transfer to the University of Wyoming to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management. Her goal is to pursue a career as a law enforcement officer or park ranger. Ashley credits her high school experiences in FFA and sports with helping develop her self-confidence and strong leadership skills. She has participated in the Morgan County Sheriff’s Cadet program and activities in connection with the University of Northern Colorado Criminal Justice Society. Ashley has also worked at Jackson Lake State Park for four seasons, where she developed valuable skills relating to her future career.
