1. Apply for a U.S. Dept. of Education FSA User ID at https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm.  Please note:  If you are a dependent student, one of your parents will also need to apply for a PIN.  Click on this helpful instructional video for help in applying for an FSA User ID:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLi0q7hkFns.

Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov.  Note:  You can sign your FAFSA electronically using your FSA User ID (preferred method) or if you do not have an FSA User ID, you can print a signature page, sign, and mail it.  Your signature will be matched up with your electronic FAFSA submission.  When mailing your signature page, please allow an additional 2 – 3 weeks for processing.

Eligibility

Students must meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate financial need. (Some loan/scholarship programs are exempt.)
  • Demonstrate that you are qualified to enroll in the postsecondary education by completion of one of the following:
    • High school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate
    • Completion of a high school education in a home school setting approved under state law
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student working toward a degree or certificate in an eligible program.
  • Be a citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Have a valid Social Security Number.
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.
  • Certify that you will use federal student aid only for educational purposes and certify that you are not in default on a federal student loan and do not owe money on a federal student grant.
  • Comply with Selective Service registration, if required.
