Bill Hinkhouse Memorial Scholarship Established

The MCC Foundation is honored to announce the establishment of the Bill Hinkhouse Memorial Scholarship in memory of Bill Hinkhouse, a strong supporter of MCC. The scholarship will be awarded annually to one MCC student from the Burlington area, based on financial need.

Burlington, CO. 4/25/2023. The Morgan Community College (MCC) Foundation is honored to announce the establishment of the Bill Hinkhouse Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was created in memory of Bill Hinkhouse, a strong supporter of Morgan Community College. The scholarship will be awarded annually to one MCC student from the Burlington area, based on financial need.

Bill Hinkhouse was an instrumental resource and connection to the community in supporting MCC. Over the past 30 years, Hinkhouse worked with four MCC College Presidents to increase the visibility of MCC in eastern Colorado.  He was also a key player in helping build improved facilities to better serve students in the Burlington area.

In November 1991, the MCC Burlington Advisory Board was formalized with representatives from area businesses and school administration. Bill Hinkhouse was elected the first Chair of the Advisory Board during the first meeting in 1992, serving in this capacity from 1992-1994.

Hinkhouse served as an MCC Foundation Board member and was active in the efforts that led to the construction of the new facility in 2006 that houses the MCC Burlington Center.  The facility was built in partnership with the City of Burlington and is now known as the Burlington Community and Education Center. The generous Hinkhouse donation to the project was honored with naming rights to a classroom. Bill and his wife, Billie, insisted the name read “Bill and Billie Hinkhouse and Families” to honor all generations of the Hinkhouse family.

“Bill Hinkhouse lived in this area for most of his life; he placed his family, his hopes, and his dreams for a good life here,” stated a representative on behalf of the Hinkhouse family. “This scholarship is seed money to grow another crop of opportunities in this fertile ground, like the ones Bill was blessed to enjoy.”

The Bill Hinkhouse Memorial Scholarship will be awarded starting in Fall 2023. Students interested in applying can visit www.morgancc.edu/foundation/scholarships-endowments/.

“Bill Hinkhouse and the Hinkhouse family have been such instrumental influences on the establishment of Morgan Community College services and facilities in the Burlington region over the years,” stated Holly Haman-Marcum, MCC Director of Regional Community Outreach for Burlington and Wray. “We are truly grateful to have the opportunity to honor him and continue his legacy and support for future generations through this scholarship.”
