This tax season, Morgan Community College (MCC) is again partnering with Tax Help Colorado, a program of Mile High United Way, to offer families free tax preparation. IRS-certified volunteers will prepare and file tax returns free of charge to households with incomes of less than $69,000 a year. This free service will be offered at the MCC Fort Morgan campus (920 Barlow Road) and the MCC Burlington Center (340 S.14th St.), on Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 3 – March 5, 2026, from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Appointments are required and can be scheduled on the MCC website at www.morgancc.edu/taxhelp.
Free tax preparation helps ease the burden of commercial tax preparation costs on low-wage earners and helps connect families with valuable tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit, which is worth up to $8,046 for the 2025 tax year. On average, tax preparation in Colorado costs $200.
“Tax Help CO offers a meaningful, hands-on experience that benefits both our students and the community,” said MCC Business Faculty, Leah Thomas. “Through MCC’s Tax Preparation course (ACC 1032), students earn IRS certification and gain the skills needed to support our free tax assistance sites during the spring semester. The course builds a strong foundation in individual tax returns, federal credits, deductions, and current tax law, while giving students the opportunity to put their learning to work in real-world settings. Anyone interested in tax preparation is encouraged to enroll in the course next fall.”

About Mile High United Way:
Mile High United Way was the very first United Way in the world. A group of visionaries including a Denver woman, a priest, two ministers, and a rabbi, who believed there must be a better way to meet the needs of local people, came together on October 16, 1887, and formed what is known today as Mile High United Way. Today, United Way has 1,800 local chapters around the globe. Mile High United Way adopted the Tax Help Colorado program from its previous home at Gary Community Ventures in June 2021, based on a belief in the transformative impact that free tax preparation and access to valuable tax credits can have on individuals, families, and communities.
