The MCC Center for Arts and Community Enrichment (CACE) will host author Dr. Betsy Gaines Quammen for a Writers’ Workshop on October 9, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Founders Room on the Fort Morgan Campus, 920 Barlow Road. In addition, Dr. Gaines Quammen will present an “Evening of Readings” from her works that same evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., also in the Founders Room. This special event offers the community an opportunity to hear selections from her published books and gain insight into her writing process. The workshop and presentation are free and open to the public.
Dr. Betsy Gaines Quammen is a historian and writer. She received a PhD from Montana State University where she studied religion, history and the philosophy of science. Her dissertation focused on Mormon history and the roots of armed public land conflicts occurring in the United States. She is fascinated by how religious views shape relationships to the landscape. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, New York Daily News, and the History News Network. She is the author of American Zion: Cliven Bundy, God, and Public Lands in the West and True West: Myth and Mending on the Far Side of America. Betsy lives in Montana with her husband, writer David Quammen; three giant dogs; a sturdy cat; and a lanky rescue python.
Dr. Betsy Gaines Quammen will guide attendees in exploring techniques for writing vivid paragraphs and narratives. This workshop will offer practical, easy-to-use strategies to help participants create writing that is clear, engaging, and memorable.
“So many people want to capture their stories—whether for family, work, or personal projects, but aren’t sure how to begin,” said Suzanna Spears, MCC CACE Coordinator. “This workshop with Dr. Betsy Gaines Quammen gives people a chance to learn practical tools from a nationally recognized author and to build confidence in their own writing.”
