When should I meet with my academic advisor?
We recommend meeting with your advisor early in the semester and checking in at least once each semester. Reach out anytime you need help or guidance. Your advisor is here to support you!
All students must meet with their advisor to register for classes during their first year at MCC.
Can my advisor change?
Your advisor will typically stay the same throughout your time at MCC to provide consistency and support. However, changes may occur based on program changes or other factors.
Why is it important to meet often with my academic advisor?
In addition to personalized support, meeting often with your advisor can help students with academic planning, goal setting, and degree progress tracking. This can lead students to better academic performance, clearer career and academic pathways, and on-time graduation.
What is the difference between the various degrees and certificate programs?
- Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS) degrees help you complete general education requirements and prepare you for a bachelor’s degree.
- AA or AS Degrees without designation are two-year programs designed to transfer to a four-year college or university.
- AA or AS Degrees with Designation or DwD are two-year programs designed to transfer to specific Colorado four-year programs aligned with a Statewide Articulation Agreement. MCC offers designated field degrees in many programs that make transferring even easier!
- Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degrees are designed to develop skills for immediate employment or to upgrade skills for career advancement. While not primarily designed to transfer, some courses may apply toward further education.
- Associate of General Studies (AGS) degree is a flexible option that allows you to explore different areas of interest while completing general education coursework. While not primarily designed to transfer, some courses may apply toward further education.
- Bachelor’s Degree Programs (BAS and BSN) at MCC are designed to build on your associate degree and focus on advanced skills, leadership, and career advancement opportunities.
- Certificates are short-term programs designed to develop skills for entry-level employment or emphasize skills in a particular area of study. Generally completed in under a year.
Why am I getting prerequisite error when registering?
This usually means you have not completed a required course or met the placement requirement (like Math or English) to enroll in a class.
Reach out to your advisor for help understanding what you need and your next steps.
How do I transfer my MCC credits somewhere else?
Click the “Menu” button on the MCC website and look for the “Transcripts” link in the gold bar. Follow the directions to create an account or log in with an existing account.
How do I transfer credit from another college/university?
You will need to have an official copy of your college transcripts sent to MCC to be evaluated. Transfer credits depend on a number of things: where you previously attended college, when you attended, and whether the course applies toward the requirements for your current program at MCC.
